We’re Partnering with Baker Building (and we’re very excited about it)

Some venues just stay with you. From the first time we stepped into Baker Building, we knew it was one of those places. There’s something about it. The history, the texture, the character in every corner. It doesn’t feel like a blank space you have to transform. It already has a story, and you get to become part of it for a day. And on top of that, Jen, the owner, is just… lovely. Truly a dream to work with ❤️

So this feels very natural to say: we are now official partners. Baker Building has joined the list of our preferred venues, and Silk & Shadows is now one of their trusted vendors for wedding planning and coordination. If you want to take a peek, you can find them on our partners page.

And if you want to understand why we fell for this space so quickly, it helps to know a little bit of its story. The Baker Building dates back to 1911, when it was originally built as a silent movie theater, pharmacy, and community gathering space. Over the years, it’s hosted everything from social events and retail shops to church services, always remaining a part of the neighborhood’s life in some way. After being closed to the public for decades, it has now been beautifully brought back to life as a wedding and event venue, still holding onto its original character. Think warm hardwood floors, exposed rafters, historic details, and soft natural light that makes everything feel a little more magical. It’s the kind of place where you don’t feel like you’re renting a venue. You feel like you’re stepping into a story and adding your own chapter to it.

Baker Building is one of those Portland wedding venues that doesn’t try too hard. It’s effortlessly beautiful. High ceilings, historic details, and that slightly moody, timeworn elegance that we are always drawn to as a Portland wedding planner team.

It’s perfect for couples who want something with depth. Something that feels a little different. A little more intentional. Whether you lean romantic, editorial, or a bit alternative, the space supports it without losing its identity.

Silk & Shadows has always been about creating weddings that feel cinematic, personal, and a little outside the expected. We don’t believe in cookie cutter weddings, and neither does Baker Building. That’s why this partnership makes so much sense.

They bring the character and the setting. We bring the structure, the flow, and the design that brings everything together. Together, it just works.

If you’re getting married at Baker Building:

First of all, excellent choice.

Second, we would absolutely love to be part of it. If you are planning a wedding at Baker Building and looking for a Portland wedding planner or coordinator who already knows and loves the space, please reach out. We would adore helping you bring your vision to life there.
